About Us

Alan Simmons Music is a publisher of music for schools and choirs. The majority of our scores and books are choral music (SATB, TTBB, SSA, SAB, part music, rounds and unison) although we do have some orchestral scores and music for instruments.

Music for schools

Over the years our music has been universally loved by teachers and children. It covers a wide range of subjects (some curriculum based – some just for fun – that bring a feel good factor. Many songs are written with managable part singing brings a real sense of achievement for children and young choirs. Alan’s works have been performed in some of the country’s most prestigious venues, including performances at The Proms, Junior Proms and Choir of The Year Competition. Alan has also devoted a great deal of time and effort to encouraging boys to sing and many of the schoolbooks in our catalogue incorporate this work. There are also major choral works that bring together children and adults in music. Where children play a key role in each piece and are on equal terms with the adult singers, not a small afterthought.

Outside education he has been musical director or chorusmaster for several choirs and performers, including Cleo Laine, Howard Keel and Roger Whittaker. His singing group, The Mastersingers, performed regularly on BBC radio and television. After retiring as Music Adviser to Kirklees Council, Alan Simmons has devoted his time to being a full time composer and publisher and currently lives in France, where he runs a successful mixed voice choir.
